Road and Car
Conversation
While
walking on the street, two long-time friends named Road and Car debated on a
topic. The topic they debated was: Who is greater, Car or Road?
During the
debate, Car was aggressive, whereas Road remained calm.
Car said
to Road, “Look, how poor you are. People
only use you, but don’t love you. People leave you alone when they reach home
and forget about you. When you are not needed by people, they even don’t
remember you. In the heavy rain, nobody
cares for you and you are wet. In
extreme heat, you are burned. Nobody ever comes to protect you.”
Car
continued, “Look at me -- how lucky I am!
People love me so much. They keep me in their garage for my comfort and
safety. I am always cared for and
protected by my owner. I am never left
alone in the sun and rain like you are.
People always keep me clean and tidy as well. They even wipe and shine me to make me look
better.”
Road
remained silent, appearing to be thinking deeply. After a long silence, Road
said to Car, “You are right. Your facts
about you and me are correct. There is
no doubt, and nobody would argue against any of your statements. I am really in a poor condition. People rarely pay attention to me like they
do to you. Yet, there is great difference
between you and me.”
Car,
surprisingly asked, “What is the difference which may make you greater than I
am? Tell me that quickly. I cannot wait any longer.”
Road
smiled gently. Road looked at Car and
said, “Dear Car, there are important differences between you and me. You are always controlled by your owner, but
I am not. You are compelled to go to the
directions and the destinations decided by your owner. You have no choice, whereas I am free to go
anywhere. Nobody controls me. Instead, people have no choice other than to
follow me. I control them instead.”
Car looked
speechless for a long time.
